Improved Polarimetric Calibration for Atmospheric Radars
Polarization properties of radar waves that are scattered from atmospheric objects are of great interest in meteorological studies. However, polarimetric radar measurements are often not sufficiently accurate for retrieving physical properties of targets. To compensate for errors, radar polarimetric calibration is applied. Typical calibrations are performed based on measurements of point target...
متن کاملPolarimetric Microwave Radiometer Calibration
A polarimetric radiometer is a radiometer with the capability to measure the correlation information between vertically and horizontally polarized electric fields. To better understand and calibrate this type of radiometer, several research efforts have been undertaken. 1) All microwave radiometer measurements of brightness temperature (7B) include an additive noise component. The variance and ...
متن کاملPolarimetric Calibration of ALOS/PALSAR
This report presents the polarimetric calibration results of ALOS/PALSAR and discusses a stability of polarimetric calibration parameters during the calibration phase of ALOS and an influence of Faraday rotation on them. PALSAR is the first spaceborne polarimetric L-band synthetic aperture radar and its polarimetric data is expected to be utilized in various remote sensing applications. However...
متن کاملInitial Polarimetric Calibration of PALSAR
This paper discusses an initial polarimetric calibration of ALOS PALSAR. ALOS was launched on January 24, 2006. PALSAR, which is one of ALOS three sensors, is the first spaceborne L−band polarimetric synthetic aperture radar. It is expected that PALSAR polarimetric data is used for many applications such as agriculture, forestry, ocean, natural disasters etc. Thus, polarimetric calibration is a...
متن کاملPolarimetric Calibration Using Polarization Orientation Angles of Built-up Areas
A new polarimetric calibration method using polarization orientation angle shifts at built-up areas and standard calibrators is studied. Calibration matrices were derived from datasets of the Gifu and the JAXA Tomakomai calibration sites, which are almost the same as those by JAXA. Faraday rotation angels in observed datasets can be estimated. Two estimated Faraday rotation angles were reasonable.
